Childcare Center

MTCC offers affordable childcare in partnership with Spartanburg County School District 5 for ages 6 weeks through 4k through our childcare program, This Is My Child.

We believe children should have a happy, safe and healthy environment in which to learn and play, and we encourage the promotion of a child’s development and well-being through early education, discovery and exploration.

Childcare Center

This Is My Child is the childcare program at Middle Tyger Community Center. The program provides high-quality care and early education for children from six weeks through 4K. Because we believe that all children should be able to receive quality childcare and have equal opportunities to learn, tuition is offered on a sliding scale based on income, and ABC Vouchers are accepted.

We are licensed by the South Carolina Department of Social Services and hold an A+ rating with the SC ABC Quality Child Care Program. The center provides a low child-to-teacher ratio, small group sizes, and all full-time staff are trained in Pediatric CPR and First Aid. Our program is recognized by Quality Counts of Spartanburg County with a 5-Star rating.

Our teachers interact with children who are actively engaged in age-appropriate activities. We encourage our children to learn independently and in small groups in an environment rich in materials. We offer access to art, music, books, blocks, math and science materials, outside play and pretend play. These are all part of a child’s high-quality day. Play is valued as a part of their learning.

program philosophy

Program Philosophy

This Is My Child realizes the importance of parents and teachers working together as a team. We want to support our parents in their efforts to guide their child’s development and educational growth. We believe…

  • You are your child’s first teacher and most important teacher.
  • Setting goals for yourself is positive for your family’s future.
  • Education is the key to achieving self-sufficiency for the future of your family.
  • Communicating positive and consistent messages to your child promotes good behavior.
  • You should read and talk to your child every day.
  • Promoting literacy experiences as part of everyday family life will help your child learn.
  • Active involvement in your child’s education promotes your child’s success in school.
  • Children should have a happy, safe and healthy environment in which to live and play.
  • Proper healthcare and immunizations are essential to you and your child’s well-being.
  • Positive relationships are at the heart of a happy family.
staff and nutrition

Childcare Staff

A highly trained and dedicated staff provides quality child care. Each This Is My Child staff member have passed a SLED background check, and they are required to actively participate in training throughout the year. All lead teachers hold a Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education or the equivalent, have been trained in the SC Program for Infants and Toddler Care, and hold the SC Early Childhood Credential. We follow best practices with low staff to child ratios and low group sizes.

Nutrition

Good nutrition is vital to a child’s overall development and well-being. In an effort to provide the best possible nutrition environment for the children at This Is My Child, we follow the SC ABC Child Care Program Nutrition Guidelines for Level A Centers to encourage the development of good eating habits that will hopefully last a lifetime. We provide a hot breakfast, hot lunch, and a nutritious afternoon snack for children ages 1 and up. All food meets or exceeds nutritional guidelines.
